Housebuilder Boosts Funding for Charity Addressing Food Insecurity in West Lothian

The Persimmon Foundation has generously donated £15,000 to The Larder, a West Lothian charity dedicated to tackling food insecurity and providing empowerment through training and support. The funding boost from the Persimmon Foundation, established by a housebuilder ten years ago, will enable The Larder to expand its impactful initiatives in Livingston.

The Larder is committed to addressing food insecurity in the community while also promoting long-term resilience and self-sufficiency. Their efforts include delivering over 200,000 ready meals to those in need and offering training in employability, life skills, health, and wellbeing. Through projects like Catalyst Kitchen, which involves meal deliveries, dining events, and cook-and-dine classes, The Larder fosters community cohesion and meaningful support.

Angela Moohan, CEO of The Larder, expressed her gratitude for the donation, highlighting how it will strengthen the charity’s ability to serve the West Lothian community and advance its mission of tackling food poverty. The Persimmon Foundation’s contribution aligns with their focus on promoting urban regeneration, advancing health and education, and alleviating poverty and disadvantage.

Since its establishment in 2015, the Persimmon Foundation has donated approximately £1.5 million to over 1,400 organisations across the UK, demonstrating a commitment to supporting communities where the Persimmon Group operates. Anthony Vigor, Chairman of the Persimmon Foundation, emphasised their delight in supporting The Larder’s vital work and its positive impact on individuals in West Lothian.

The donation from the Persimmon Foundation will facilitate The Larder in expanding its programmes, allowing more young people to gain valuable qualifications, work experience, and essential life skills. The continuous support from foundations like Persimmon plays a crucial role in enabling charities to make a difference in the communities they serve.

In conclusion, the partnership between the Persimmon Foundation and The Larder highlights the importance of corporate social responsibility in addressing local challenges such as food insecurity. By working together, businesses and charities can create meaningful change and opportunities for individuals in need, ultimately building stronger and more resilient communities.
