Drug-crazed man posing as a police officer broke into a couple’s home in Coatbridge, Scotland, threatening them and stealing £2500 in cash, as reported by Lanarkshire Live. Anthony Black, aged 32, was sentenced to two years and eight months in jail at Airdrie Sheriff Court for the crime he committed on December 27.
The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning when Black, pretending to be a cop, forced his way into the couple’s home on Calder Street. The terrified young mother was threatened by Black, who warned her not to resist, saying, “don’t make me stab you.” He then proceeded to steal cash amounting to £2500 and some teeth-whitening strips from the house before fleeing the scene.
Black, who was known to the victims, was later arrested by the police at an address in Coatbridge the following day. During his court appearance, it was revealed that he had committed the robbery while on bail for two separate charges. Despite claiming that he went to the house for drugs and the robbery was an impulsive act, Black was sentenced by Sheriff Paul Haran for causing significant fear to the couple.
In his defence, Black’s lawyer mentioned his client’s addiction to cocaine, which impairs his judgment and behaviour. Black expressed remorse for his actions, stating that he would not have behaved in such a manner had he been sober. Sheriff Haran acknowledged Black’s guilty plea but emphasized the seriousness of the crime, indicating that the fear imposed on the victims warranted a substantial sentence.
This disturbing incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by drug abuse and criminal behaviour within communities.
