North Lanarkshire musical charity chosen for significant multi-year cash boost

North Lanarkshire-based music charity, Reeltime Music, has been selected to receive a substantial multi-year funding boost. Situated in Newarthill Community Centre, the charity is dedicated to assisting underprivileged young individuals throughout North Lanarkshire. Reeltime Music offers a platform for these individuals to enhance their confidence, develop skills, and form relationships through music. The charity’s services include affordable recording and rehearsal facilities, workshops, training, volunteering opportunities, and collaborative projects.

In a momentous announcement, Creative Scotland revealed that a record number of cultural organisations, including Reeltime Music, will benefit from stable, multi-year funding, thanks to a significant financial commitment from the Scottish Government. This funding will enable Reeltime Music to continue its valuable work with disadvantaged youth in the region and expand its impact.

With the support of a £3.2 million Development Fund, Reeltime Music will join 12 other organisations in transitioning to the Multi-Year Funding portfolio in 2026/27. Motherwell and Wishaw MSP Clare Adamson commended the funding boost for Reeltime Music, acknowledging the charity’s positive influence on young people in the community. She highlighted the educational benefits of music, such as its role in brain development, language acquisition, and social engagement, emphasising the importance of making music accessible to all.

Adamson stressed the significance of investing in the cultural sector and supporting organisations like Reeltime Music that enrich the lives of individuals in Motherwell and Wishaw. The funding injection will not only ensure the sustainability of Reeltime Music but also enable the charity to continue making a difference in the lives of young people.

This substantial funding boost for Reeltime Music signifies a vital contribution to the arts and culture landscape in North Lanarkshire, underlining the importance of nurturing creative initiatives that have a profound impact on society. Such investments play a crucial role in empowering communities, fostering talent, and ensuring that the transformative power of music reaches those who need it most.
