Horrifying footage captures the moment a Scottish husband attempted to murder his wife by running her over twice in a car park in Edinburgh. William Budge has been sentenced to seven years and four months in prison for the chilling crime. The CCTV footage shows Budge driving his car over his wife, Sandra, in a car park at Muirhouse Parkway in Edinburgh on April 14, 2024. The brutal attack left Sandra, aged 64, severely injured and in a life-threatening situation.
The video shows Budge hitting Sandra with his silver car while she was standing next to a relative. Despite her attempts to cling onto the bonnet, she was dragged several feet before being run over by the vehicle. Shockingly, Budge then turned his car around, accelerated, and drove over his wife for a second time, as screams from onlookers filled the air.
Budge pleaded guilty to assaulting Sandra, causing severe injury, permanent disfigurement, and endangering her life, as well as attempting to murder her. Additionally, he admitted to a history of abusive behaviour towards her, including physical attacks and verbal abuse over several years.
The court heard that Sandra had left Budge and moved to a flat on the same street. On the day of the attempted murder, Budge confronted her in the car park, leading to the horrific incident. Sandra suffered multiple injuries, including damage to her lungs and liver, rib and ankle fractures, and internal bleeding. She required hospitalization and extensive rehabilitation following the attack.
In sentencing, Judge Lord Lake described the offence as extremely serious and imposed a Non-Harassment Order on Budge, prohibiting him from contacting Sandra for the next 15 years.
