A recent follow-up inspection by the Care Inspectorate has revealed persistent issues at the Fairknowe House care home in Maybole. The inspection, conducted in January, highlighted ongoing challenges with medication record-keeping and staff compliance with best practice guidelines regarding medication management. While improvements have been noted in the delivery of care at the facility, concerns remain regarding these critical areas.
The Care Inspectorate issued an Improvement Notice to the provider on December 9, 2024, outlining five required improvements. Although the care home has successfully implemented four of these improvements, deficiencies in medication management continue to be a cause for concern. The report stated, “During this inspection, we noted continued issues with medication record-keeping and with staff failing to adhere to best practice guidance regarding medication management.”
Fairknowe House, located on Cargill Road, is registered to provide care for up to 40 older individuals with physical or cognitive needs. The service provider, Mead Medical Services Limited, has been given until March 23, 2025, to address the outstanding issues related to medication management. Failure to meet these requirements could have serious implications for the residents’ wellbeing and safety.
Despite some progress, the Care Inspectorate’s report underscores the critical importance of ensuring proper medication practices within care homes to safeguard residents’ health needs effectively.
