Specialist rescue teams are currently engaged in a mission to locate a whale that is possibly entangled in creel ropes off the North-West coast of Scotland. The British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) teams are working diligently to find the whale, which is believed to be in distress in the waters near Gairloch.
Although there are concerns about a whale entangled in ropes, it has been clarified that this is a different incident than the one involving a whale caught in a fish farm’s rope off the Isle of Skye last week. The previous entanglement incident was successfully resolved by the BDMLR team, as the humpback whale was freed from the creel ropes near Rigg at the Invertote salmon farm.
The BDMLR team’s large whale disentanglement unit has been mobilised to search for the whale currently in trouble. Volunteers and specialists are working hard to locate the potentially entangled whale and provide the necessary assistance to free it from any ropes or fishing gear it may be caught in.
