Drive Towards Train Station for Winchburgh Pushes Forward with Recent Meeting
The effort to establish a train station in Winchburgh is gaining momentum following a recent meeting between West Lothian Council, Winchburgh Developments Ltd, Transport Scotland, and the Scottish Government’s Minister for Agriculture and Connectivity. The meeting aimed to review progress and provide updates on the proposal to introduce a railway station in Winchburgh. West Lothian Council recently made the decision to collaborate with Winchburgh Developments Ltd as co-promoters for the project. This partnership will advance the necessary design work with Network Rail to develop a Business Case required for seeking funding for the station.
Lawrence Fitzpatrick, Leader of West Lothian Council, expressed his optimism about the project, highlighting the significant benefits a railway station would bring to Winchburgh in terms of improved access to employment, education, leisure, as well as reduced congestion and carbon emissions. John Hamilton, Chief Executive of Winchburgh Developments Ltd, praised the council for taking on the role of Co-promoter, seeing it as a positive step towards realising the station within the masterplan for the area.
The next milestone is the submission of the business case to the Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Region Deal for potential funding through its Strategic Sites Investment Programme or other public funding sources identified by the project Steering Group. Minister for Agriculture and Connectivity Jim Fairlie MSP commended the collaborative efforts of the Station Steering Group members and highlighted the Scottish Government’s support for the project.
