Dr Punam Krishan: The TV medic hoping to prescribe some entertainment this autumn

Dr Punam Krishan, known as the TV medic, is taking a break from the doctor’s surgery to hit the dancefloor this autumn. She is set to compete in the upcoming 20th-anniversary series of the popular BBC show, Strictly Come Dancing. This decision comes after a challenging year for the show, which faced a scandal behind the scenes that shook its production.

Alongside Dr Punam Krishan, other celebrities participating in the 2024 series include presenter Nick Knowles, singer Toyah Wilcox, and model Tasha Ghouri, a former Love Island contestant. Dr Punam Krishan is a practicing doctor who often shares medical insights through various media appearances. Viewers may recognise her from her role as the resident GP on BBC Morning Live and BBC Radio Scotland, as well as from her contributions to other broadcasts. She has even authored a children’s book.

Expressing her excitement about joining Strictly Come Dancing, Dr Punam Krishan said, “This still doesn’t feel real. I am overjoyed to be a contestant on this year’s show. I have watched Strictly every year with my family, and it feels extra special that it’s the 20th year. I can’t believe I will be the one getting Strictly-fied now. This is so out of my comfort zone, but I’m up for the journey and will give it my absolute all.”

As the upcoming series unfolds, all eyes will be on the show following an internal investigation launched by the BBC in response to bullying accusations raised against Giovanni Pernice by his celebrity partner from the 2023 season, Amanda Abbington. The investigation revealed alleged mistreatment by another professional dancer, Graziano Di Prima, towards his partner Zara McDermott from the previous year’s series, leading to his removal from the show.

Amidst the controversies, one familiar face returning to the show is Aljaž Škorjanec, although his comeback has faced scrutiny due to alleged past conflicts with another professional on the programme. However, Škorjanec has refuted the allegations, with his spokesperson clarifying to The Independent, “Aljaz has the utmost respect for everyone he works with. He chose to leave the show in 2022 of his own accord but he has always loved Strictly and was delighted to be asked back.”

As viewers gear up for another exciting season of Strictly Come Dancing, the mix of participants, scandals, and returning faces promises to deliver an engaging and captivating viewing experience for fans of the show.
