Garth Brooks, the renowned country music star, is facing serious allegations of rape in a lawsuit brought forth by a former hair-and-makeup artist. The woman, identified as Jane Roe in the lawsuit, claims that Brooks sexually assaulted her in a Los Angeles hotel room back in 2019.
According to the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, the woman had been working for Brooks’ wife, Trisha Yearwood, since 1999 and began working for Brooks himself in 2017. The alleged assault took place when the woman travelled from Nashville to Los Angeles with Brooks, where he was scheduled to perform at a Grammy Awards tribute in October 2019. The lawsuit details that despite usually having an entourage, Brooks and the woman were alone on his private jet, and he booked only one hotel suite for them. The woman alleges that in the hotel room, Brooks sexually assaulted her.
The lawsuit further reveals that the woman had earlier experienced inappropriate behaviour from Brooks when he exposed himself to her and made advances towards her at his home in 2019. She also claimed that Brooks sent her explicit messages and discussed sexual fantasies with her. The woman stated that she felt pressured to continue working for Brooks due to financial difficulties, which he allegedly exploited.
Brooks, who is now 62 years old and hails from Oklahoma, is a prominent figure in country music, known for hits such as “Friends in Low Places” and “The Thunder Rolls.” He has been a major star in the industry since the 1990s and has crossed over to mainstream pop audiences with his energetic performances. In 2005, Brooks married fellow country singer Trisha Yearwood.
The lawsuit also highlights a separate legal action initiated by Brooks in federal court in Mississippi last month, where both the musician and the woman remain anonymous. In response to the allegations, Brooks, identified as John Doe in that case, has denied the claims as “wholly untrue” and accused the woman of extortion.
Efforts to obtain comments from Brooks’ representatives have not yielded immediate responses. The lawsuit raises serious allegations against a music icon, shedding light on a disturbing incident that has come to the forefront several years after the alleged assault.
