Crowds recently gathered at the Dumfries and Galloway Aviation Museum for the annual Wings and Wheels Show, attracting hundreds of visitors to enjoy a display of nearly 190 exhibits. The show featured a variety of vehicles, including a unique Gator 2 Lynx edition tractor powered by four Rolls Royce Gem turbine engines. The tractor, used in tractor pulling, fascinated visitors with its engine runs, creating a memorable experience for all.
In addition to the tractor, classic cars, modified cars, motorbikes, and trucks were on display alongside various aircraft exhibits, providing a diverse range of attractions for the attendees. The day’s entertainment was accompanied by music from the Dumfries Community Swing Band, adding to the lively atmosphere of the event. Visitors also had the opportunity to receive advice and information from Dumfries and Galloway’s Prostate Buddies, who were present on the airfield.
The museum expressed its gratitude to Jim Whitecross for showcasing the remarkable Gator 2 Lynx tractor, as well as to all the exhibitors, visitors, and volunteers who contributed to the success of the show. The museum houses a notable collection of aircraft, including a Battle of Britain veteran Loch Doon Spitfire, a supersonic Lightning fighter, and a collection of wartime assault gliders. Dedicated displays on topics such as the Home Front, RAF Dumfries, the Bomber War, and Scotland’s only Airborne Forces collection are also featured.
For those interested in visiting the museum, it is open to the public on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm, with the last entry at 4 pm. The season will come to a close on Saturday, October 26. The Wings and Wheels Show not only showcased a range of fascinating exhibits but also provided a platform for enthusiasts and visitors to engage with the rich aviation history preserved at the museum.
