Irina Shayk Stuns in Eighties’ Punk at Vivienne Westwood Fashion Show
Vivienne Westwood’s spring/summer 2025 collection turned heads at Paris Fashion Week with a blend of ‘quiet luxury’ and punk-inspired designs. The show, themed ‘calibrate’, aimed to determine the character of Eighties’ punk in modern society.
Ex-Victoria’s Secret model Irina Shayk made a statement by closing the show in a simple yet elegant oversized white suit. Andreas Kronthaler, the creative director of the fashion house and late designer’s widower, orchestrated a mix of retro punk elements with a modern twist.
The collection featured a range of garments including satin dresses, tartan skirts, platform heels, bulky headphones, and disco glasses, providing a nostalgic nod to the Eighties. Despite the diverse range, there was a cohesive focus on lines and silhouettes, exploring the human form and drawing attention to specific body features.
Kronthaler skillfully merged Westwood’s iconic Eighties’ punk essence with elements from other decades, such as swimsuits and sparkling leggings reminiscent of the 2000s. As the show concluded, Kronthaler and Shayk walked hand in hand to the tune of Will Young’s ‘Crying On The Bathroom Floor’, symbolising a harmonious blend of past and present.
The collection not only paid homage to Westwood’s timeless influence but also connected with women of today who may find nostalgia in the punk aesthetics of the past. With supermodel Kate Moss’s ex-husband Jefferson Hack and rapper Cardi B among the attendees, the show highlighted the brand’s enduring relevance in modern pop culture.
Kronthaler’s thoughtful fusion of punk nostalgia with contemporary fashion trends showcased the brand’s ability to transcend generations and remain a prominent force in the industry. Irina Shayk’s presence as a Noughties icon added a touch of glamour, reinforcing the brand’s status as a symbol of avant-garde luxury.
