Tottenham Hotspur may have a rising star in their ranks as Joe Cole, the former Chelsea player, tips 17-year-old Mikey Moore to challenge for a starting position in the team’s upcoming match against Brighton. The young talent caught the eye of Cole with his impressive performance during Spurs’ recent Europa League victory over Ferencvaros, where they secured a 2-1 win with goals from Pape Matar Sarr and Brennan Johnson.
Manager Ange Postecoglou took a bold move by including four teenagers in the starting line-up, with Moore particularly standing out on the right wing. Cole believes Moore’s unique style of play could eventually see him competing for a place alongside established players like Son Heung-min. Speaking on TNT Sports, Cole expressed his confidence in Moore, stating, “He’s one where Ange Postecoglou will have looked at in pre-season but every time he plays he ticks another box and another box. I think he’s a star and certainly in the frame for the weekend.”
Moore, who has previously represented England at youth level, made history as the youngest player to feature for Spurs in the Premier League when he debuted against Manchester City last May. Since then, he has made six senior appearances and continues to impress his coach. Postecoglou commended Moore’s performance in the post-match interview, describing it as ‘outstanding’ and highlighting the teenager’s ability to handle the pressure of a European away match.
Reflecting on his unexpected start against Ferencvaros, Moore revealed that he was informed just two hours before kick-off. Despite the nerves, he felt ready to seize the opportunity, saying, “It’s what you work for. There’s a bit of nerves coming into it, but once you get on the pitch you’re alright. It’s a big step but it’s one that I’m really ready to take.” Moore expressed gratitude towards his teammates for their support, emphasising the positive environment within the squad.
With Moore’s promising display and strong determination, all eyes will be on whether he secures a starting spot against Brighton, as Tottenham look to continue their winning momentum in both domestic and European competitions. The youngster’s rapid development and composure at such a young age have certainly impressed fans and pundits alike, setting the stage for an exciting journey ahead in his burgeoning football career.
