**A76 Dumfriesshire to Experience Weekend Closures**
Motorists travelling through Dumfriesshire along the A76 are advised to prepare for upcoming road closures and diversions set to take place mid-month. The maintenance work is part of an ash dieback action plan, managed by Amey on behalf of Transport Scotland, focusing on essential woodland maintenance near Enterkinfoot. The specific location for maintenance will be between Auchensell and Eilock Wood, with closures scheduled from Friday, October 18, until Monday, October 28, including two full weekend closures.
These weekend closures are set to occur between 7 pm on Friday until 6 am on Monday for both weekends – October 18 to 21 and October 25 to 28. The aim of the maintenance work is to remove hazardous trees that are near the trunk road and improve the landscape’s resilience against pests, diseases, and climate change. During the closures, diversions will be in place for northbound and southbound traffic, directing drivers to alternative routes to maintain the flow of traffic as efficiently as possible.
For northbound traffic, the detour will involve exiting the A76 onto C133N Holestane Road towards Drumlanrig Castle, then continuing north on the A702 to the Abington services roundabouts before re-joining the A76. Southbound traffic will follow a similar pattern but in the opposite direction, ensuring a smooth traffic flow during the maintenance period.
Additionally, there will be essential bridge expansion joint replacements on the A76 at Mennock from Monday, October 28, until Saturday, November 2, with overnight temporary traffic lights in operation from 8 pm to 6 am each night. Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout the works, although they are subject to weather conditions and may be rescheduled if necessary.
