Councillor Michelle Frampton highlighted the issue during a council committee meeting, citing instances of groups gathering outside city centre supermarkets and near the Canal Street multi-storey car park throughout the day. Police are actively addressing the matter, with a local inspector emphasising their commitment to dealing with anyone committing crimes appropriately.
Speaking at the Housing and Social Wellbeing Committee meeting, Almond and Earn councillor Michelle Frampton expressed worry about the increasing problem of groups with drug and alcohol issues congregating in different areas around the city centre. In response, Police Sergeant Allan Neary assured that the police are attentive to the issue, working closely with partners to address the concerns raised. He acknowledged the impact of such behaviour on the community, particularly in deterring individuals, especially the elderly, from visiting the town centre.
Additionally, Perth City Centre councillor Peter Barrett raised alarm over a couple causing disturbances by sleeping rough in a vacant city centre shop. He highlighted issues such as public drinking, loud music, and urination, stressing the need for proactive and preventive measures to address such challenges effectively. Inspector Stephen Gray reiterated the importance of tackling anti-social behaviour as a key priority for residents, assuring that those involved in criminal activities would face appropriate consequences.
