Five men were injured after a car allegedly ploughed into a crowd during a Freshers Week party at a nightclub. The incident occurred at Tunnel Club on Livery Street in Birmingham at around 3.15 am on October 4. One casualty sustained “multiple serious injuries,” while four others were treated for “potentially serious injuries” before being taken to the hospital. The group of men was reportedly hit by the vehicle outside the nightclub, where hundreds of students had been celebrating Freshers Week.
Reports indicate that four ambulances, two paramedics officers, a MERIT trauma doctor, and critical care paramedic responded to the scene promptly, with the first responder arriving within five minutes. An ambulance service spokeswoman stated that upon arrival, crews found five patients. The first patient, a male pedestrian, was treated for multiple serious injuries and taken to a Major Trauma Centre for further treatment. The other four men, also pedestrians, received medical attention for potentially serious injuries and were conveyed to the hospital.
West Midlands Police have initiated an investigation into the incident, treating it as a “targeted attack.” One individual was arrested on suspicion of affray and is currently in custody. Authorities are actively seeking the car that was allegedly driven at the group intentionally, as well as the individual responsible for the act. Witnesses reported seeing a man “running people over,” while others mentioned hearing “shrieking and fighting sounds” during the early hours of the morning following the incident.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police stated that they are treating the incident as a targeted attack and have increased patrols in the area for reassurance. They urged anyone with information or any photos or videos of the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation.
