Nicolas Colsaerts rolls back years to share surprise halfway lead at Alfred Dunhill Links

Belgian golfer Nicolas Colsaerts has made a remarkable comeback to share the halfway lead at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Colsaerts, a former Ryder Cup player, carded a brilliant second-round score of 65 at Carnoustie to reach 14 under par. This put him in a tie for the lead with Australia’s Cameron John, who also shot a 68 at St Andrews after an opening 62 at Kingsbarns.

Colsaerts, who at one point was ranked as high as 32nd in the world, has seen his ranking drop significantly in recent years, currently sitting at 695th. The 41-year-old reflected on his performance, acknowledging that he was just happy to be competing at this stage of his career. Despite a shaky start with a bogey on the third hole, Colsaerts turned things around with eight birdies during his round.

On the other hand, Cameron John, at just 23 years old and ranked 1,007th in the world, expressed his enjoyment of playing on the prestigious links courses during the championship. John highlighted the unique experience of playing on such iconic courses and emphasized the importance of soaking in the moment and enjoying the experience.

Overnight leader Darren Fichardt, who had an impressive 61 at Kingsbarns, followed up with a 70 at St Andrews to sit one shot behind the co-leaders. Other notable names in the mix include Ryder Cup teammates Tyrrell Hatton and Tommy Fleetwood, who are part of a tie for ninth place at 11 under par.

Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy is looking to make a move up the leaderboard after carding consecutive 69s to sit at six under par. The Northern Irishman will need a strong performance at St Andrews on Saturday to contend for the title.

With the championship heading into the weekend, the competition is heating up as players vie for the Alfred Dunhill Links title. Fans can expect an exciting finish as the field navigates the challenging links courses in Scotland.

As the action unfolds, golf enthusiasts around the world will be following closely to see who emerges victorious at this prestigious tournament.
