A 37-year-old father of two is suing a California-based MRI company endorsed by Kim Kardashian for allegedly missing “obvious” signs of an impending stroke in his scan results.
Sean Clifford from New Jersey underwent an AI-assisted full-body scan at Prenuvo in July 2023, paying $2,500 for the procedure. Despite the company’s claims of offering a comprehensive scan for various conditions including tumors, the radiologist who reviewed Clifford’s scan reportedly failed to identify a vascular blockage in his brain that could have indicated a stroke.
According to the lawsuit, nine months after the scan, Clifford suffered a catastrophic stroke in the same area where the blockage was missed, requiring three emergency brain surgeries to save his life. As a result of the stroke, Clifford now experiences paralysis on the left side of his body, vision issues, cognitive delays, speech difficulties, and significant neurological deficits.
Clifford’s attorney, Neal Bhushan, described the situation as “devastating” and emphasized that the stroke could have been prevented if the MRI scan had been accurately interpreted. The lawsuit highlights that a third-party neurologist found clear warning signs of the impending stroke in Clifford’s scan that were not documented in the original report.
The legal filing accuses Prenuvo of providing negligent and substandard care, leading to the missed diagnosis and subsequent devastating stroke. The lawsuit includes claims of medical malpractice, negligence, lack of informed consent, and other charges, seeking compensatory and punitive damages to be determined by a jury.
While Prenuvo has not responded to requests for comment, the lawsuit points out the company’s celebrity endorsements and social media buzz, contrasting the promotion with the alleged medical oversight in Clifford’s case.
Clifford’s family has set up a GoFundMe campaign to support his recovery efforts, raising $55,000 towards their $125,000 goal. The legal battle against the MRI company continues as Clifford seeks justice and accountability for the life-altering consequences of the missed stroke diagnosis.
