A new weather map has unveiled the regions under a tornado warning as Britain gears up for a barrage of hail and lightning. The map from the Tornado and Storm Research Organisation (TSRO) highlights that South West England, parts of South East England, the south Midlands, East Anglia, and the Channel Islands are all facing potential severe weather conditions. The TSRO cautioned of possible hazards such as 50mph gusty winds, isolated tornadoes, lightning, and hail.
According to the organisation, storm clouds are advancing from the Atlantic into the southwest and are expected to spread across the nation. The Met Office has forecasted an “unsettled period” ahead, with the ex-Hurricane Kirk anticipated to impact Europe later in the week, potentially causing disruptive weather conditions nationwide. Monday and Tuesday are predicted to bring a mix of sunshine and showers, with the west experiencing heavier rainfall compared to drier conditions in the east.
The deputy chief meteorologist at the Met Office, Chris Bulmer, issued a warning about the approaching weather system. He stated that while Kirk is projected to lose its hurricane status, it could still bring disruptive rain and wind to parts of the UK from midweek onwards. Bulmer emphasised the need to closely monitor the forecast due to the uncertainties regarding the exact track and timing of the system.
Bulmer also highlighted that regions of England and Wales might face the highest risk of heavy rain and strong winds during Wednesday and Thursday. However, he reminded that a deviation in the system’s path could lead to disruptive conditions affecting France instead. As the situation evolves, the necessity for weather warnings will be reassessed, underscoring the importance of staying updated with the latest forecast developments.
