Sarah Michelle Gellar has confirmed that she will not be making a return for the upcoming reboot of “I Know What You Did Last Summer”, citing the demise of her character Helen Shivers in the original 1997 film. The 47-year-old actress, known for her role as the beauty queen in the classic horror movie directed by Jim Gillespie, revealed in an interview with People that she will not be reprising her character.
Gellar starred alongside her now-husband Freddie Prinze Jr, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Ryan Phillippe in the slasher film that follows the story of four friends being hunted by a killer threatening to expose their dark secret. Despite not appearing in the reboot, Gellar humorously mentioned that she has an unofficial role in the project as the continuity expert, guiding her friend Jennifer Kaytin Robinson who is directing the new film.
While Gellar won’t be returning, it was disclosed that Freddie Prinze Jr is set to reprise his role as Ray Bronson in the upcoming sequel. The cast will also include Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Haur-King. Talks are still ongoing for Jennifer Love Hewitt’s potential comeback in the movie.
