Staff at Morrisons in Dumfries have successfully exceeded their fundraising target for the charity Together For Short Lives. The team managed to raise an impressive sum of £1,374 through various events and donations, surpassing their initial goal of £1,000. This achievement is part of Morrisons’ wider effort to raise funds for the charity, with over £9 million raised by various stores in recent years.
The fundraising initiative involved a cross-region challenge where the Challenge 54 Cup was passed from one Morrisons store to another in a relay throughout September. The Dumfries store received the cup from the Carlisle store and had to transport it to colleagues in the Stranraer supermarket at the other end of the region. Home delivery manager Andrew Watson played a key role in ensuring the smooth handover of the cup, with support from Covetrus, who kickstarted the fundraising with a generous £100 donation.
Covetrus Managing Director, Erin Sparks, expressed pride in supporting the initiative, highlighting the importance of local community involvement. In Dumfries, the cup was displayed for customers and staff to see, while additional funds were raised through activities like bucket collections and a fundraising table offering items like books, knitting, and dog treat bags.
The cup then continued its journey, with a milk tanker from TP Niven transporting it on one of the longest legs of the relay to Morrisons in Stranraer, covering a distance of 72 miles. Myra, from the Dumfries Morrisons, expressed gratitude to Covetrus and TP Niven for their support in transporting the cup and contributing to the fundraising efforts. She also thanked the staff and customers who donated, enabling them to surpass their fundraising target.
The success of Dumfries Morrisons in exceeding their fundraising goal demonstrates the power of community spirit and generosity in supporting important causes. It showcases the commitment of both staff and local businesses in coming together to make a positive impact and help those in need.
