Russian Strikes on Medical Centre in Sumy Result in Eight Casualties
In a tragic development, two consecutive Russian drone strikes on a medical center in Sumy, a city in Ukraine, have resulted in the deaths of at least eight individuals. Ukrainian officials have confirmed the devastating toll from the attacks.
The first strike reportedly claimed the life of one person. The situation escalated when a second attack occurred as patients and staff were in the process of evacuating the premises, according to Ukraine’s Interior Minister, Ihor Klymenko. Local authorities in Sumy have specified that Shahed drones were utilised in the assault, leading to the death of eight people and causing injuries to an additional eleven individuals. Sumy is situated approximately 20 miles away from Russia’s Kursk region, where Ukrainian forces have been strategically positioned since August 6 to divert attention from the front line in Ukraine.
Ukraine’s air force reported a successful interception of 69 out of 73 Russian drones launched overnight, as well as two out of four missiles. Kyiv city officials mentioned that around 15 drones were neutralised over the capital and its outskirts. In a separate incident in Kryvyi Rih, the hometown of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, local reports confirmed the discovery of a deceased individual beneath the rubble of an administrative building that was hit by a Russian missile the day before, bringing the total casualties from that incident to four.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Defence Ministry has disclosed that their air defences managed to shoot down five Ukrainian drones over the Belgorod and Kursk regions, which share borders with Ukraine. Tragically, one fatality was reported in Shebekino, a Russian city bordering Ukraine, due to Ukrainian shelling, with two further individuals sustaining injuries.
The unfolding situation underscores the devastating consequences of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The vicious cycle of violence continues to claim innocent lives and inflict untold suffering on both sides.
