A colossal 15-metre whale, believed to be a humpback, has been spotted lifeless off the Scottish coast. Initially sighted near South Queensferry in front of the Forth Rail Bridge, the whale has since drifted towards Newhaven as the tides carried it away. Experts from the Scottish Marine Stranding Scheme have identified the deceased creature and are patiently waiting for it to wash ashore in order to conduct a thorough investigation.
This tragic discovery adds to the series of sea animals found on Scottish shores this year, with a particularly distressing incident involving 77 pilot whales stranded on an Orkney beach, marking one of the largest mass strandings in decades. Despite efforts to save the stranded whales, only a few were found alive upon rescue attempts. Reports indicated that the mammals were in good health prior to the tragic events.
