Toyota has issued a recall for 50,000 cars due to safety concerns that could lead to an increased risk of a crash. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has identified the Corolla Cross Hybrid as the affected model experiencing problems with its braking system. Owners are advised to visit their local Toyota dealership for a check-up to determine if their vehicle is at risk. Dealers will update the vehicles’ programs to ensure they are safe to be on the road. The NHTSA stated that in certain situations, when braking while turning a corner, drivers may experience a hard brake pedal that could result in a longer stopping distance than expected, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
This recall applies to cars produced between June 2022 and September 2024. Toyota has announced that for the affected vehicles, dealers will update the skid control Electronic Control Unit (ECU) software for the brake actuator at no cost to the owners. Notifications will be sent to the owners by late November 2024 regarding the necessary updates. This latest recall follows Toyota’s recent recall of 43,395 Sequoia Hybrids in the US due to a potential issue with the vehicles’ tow hitches. The tow hitch cover on the rear bumper of the vehicles may not have sufficient retention, leading to a safety concern during towing.
