Fenerbahce Manager Jose Mourinho Protests Disallowed Goal with Laptop
Newly appointed Fenerbahce manager, Jose Mourinho, caused a stir during his team’s match against Antalyaspor when he used his laptop to contest a disallowed goal. The incident occurred in Fenerbahce’s 2-0 victory over Antalyaspor in the Turkish Süper Lig. After a goal by Edin Dzeko was ruled out for offside by VAR, Mourinho took matters into his own hands. He placed his laptop in front of the BeIN Sports cameras to display a freeze-frame image that he believed proved the goal should have counted.
The 61-year-old manager’s actions led to a booking by the referee, Cihan Aydin, in the 78th minute. Despite the controversial moment, Fenerbahce went on to secure a 2-0 victory with goals from Dusan Tadic and an own goal from Thalisson Kelven. Mourinho, a former manager of Manchester United and Chelsea, took over as head coach of Fenerbahce in June, following his departure from AS Roma earlier in the year.
Fenerbahce narrowly missed out on the league title last season to Galatasaray by just three points, with Mourinho aiming to guide them to success this season. The Portuguese manager has made headlines in Turkey with his bold tactics and outspoken behaviour. Currently, Fenerbahce sits second in the Turkish Süper Lig table, trailing behind arch-rivals Galatasaray by three points.
This is not the first time Mourinho has courted controversy since joining Fenerbahce. Earlier this month, he was fined for skipping a post-match press conference after a defeat to Galatasaray. Mourinho explained that he waited for the opposing manager’s press conference for 70 minutes before leaving, feeling disrespected by the delay. Despite the challenges, Mourinho remains focused on leading Fenerbahce to success.
In an upcoming Europa League match, Mourinho will face one of his former clubs, Manchester United, as Fenerbahce hosts the English team on 24th October.
