Jeep has issued a recall for more than 194,000 plug-in hybrid SUVs globally due to a potential fire risk when the vehicles are not in use. Owners are advised to refrain from charging their SUVs and park them outdoors, away from any structures until they can be repaired. The affected models include the Wrangler four by e spanning from 2020 to 2024 and the Grand Cherokee four by e from 2022 to 2024, with a majority of the recalled SUVs located in North America.
According to Stellantis, the manufacturer of Jeeps, a solution is in progress, and customers will be notified when they can bring in their vehicles for servicing. The company emphasises that the risk of fire is minimised when the battery charge is fully depleted. A routine analysis of customer data prompted an investigation which revealed 13 fire incidents, resulting in two injuries. Stellantis estimates that around 5% of the SUVs are affected by this issue.
