Many Verizon customers across the US hit by service outage

Many Verizon customers across the United States have been impacted by a service outage. Reports indicate that tens of thousands of users experienced disruptions to their cellphone service. The issue was widespread, with reports exceeding 100,000 initially and still affecting nearly 48,000 users by late afternoon.

Customers took to social media to express their frustration, noting that the outage was not limited to a specific region. Reports came in from the Southeast, where communities are recovering from Hurricane Helene, as well as the West Coast, Midwest, and Northeast. Verizon, based in New York, acknowledged the problem on social media, stating that they were aware of the issue and working to resolve it promptly.

The Federal Communications Commission also acknowledged the outage and mentioned that they were investigating the cause. Some Verizon iPhone users observed SOS messages on their devices, indicating difficulty in connecting to the network but still allowing emergency calls through alternate carriers. When facing such outages, one workaround is to utilise Wi-Fi connections and enable Wi-Fi calling features on their devices.

Verizon assured customers that their engineers were investigating the matter to identify and rectify the issue swiftly. While the exact cause of the outage remains unclear, the telecom company is working diligently to restore service to all affected customers.
