Sabrina Carpenter has made a light-hearted remark about her unexpected connection to the scandal involving Eric Adams, the Mayor of New York City, stating, “I got the mayor indicted”. The 25-year-old pop star made the comment during a recent stop on her Short n’ Sweet tour at Madison Square Garden.
Adams, 64, recently became the city’s first sitting mayor to be indicted on charges including bribery, wire fraud, solicitation of contribution by a foreign national, and conspiracy. Despite the charges, he has maintained his plea of not guilty. Carpenter’s link to Mayor Adams’s scandal dates back to November 2023 when she filmed part of her music video for “Feather” at a Roman Catholic Church in Brooklyn. The controversial video depicted scenes of men fighting to the death over Carpenter, with coffins displayed upright in the church.
Following the video’s release, the church’s pastor, Monsignor Jamie J. Gigantiello, faced consequences for allowing the filming on the church’s property without following proper protocols. The Diocese of Brooklyn expressed dismay over the content filmed in the church. Carpenter defended her actions, stating that she had received approval beforehand to film at the church.
Recent reports revealed that the church was subpoenaed by federal investigators regarding Gigantiello’s possible business connections with Frank Carone, Adams’s former chief of staff. However, Gigantiello’s attorney clarified that he is not the target of any investigations. The Brooklyn Diocese stated its commitment to cooperating with law enforcement in ongoing investigations.
Speculation has arisen suggesting that Carpenter’s music video controversy led to the scrutiny of Gigantiello’s business dealings, eventually linking to Adams’s indictment. The indictment alleges that Adams accepted inappropriate benefits such as luxury travel from wealthy foreign entities in exchange for influence. Adams surrendered to authorities last week and was released on his own recognizance following his arraignment.
The unfolding scandal involving Mayor Eric Adams continues to capture public attention, with connections to Sabrina Carpenter’s music video adding an unexpected twist to the unfolding events.
