Samuel L. Jackson Worried About ‘Staying Alive’ Long Enough to Make Nine Marvel Movies
Samuel L. Jackson recently shared his surprise at the number of movies he was offered when he first signed a contract with Marvel. The 75-year-old actor, known for his role as Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2008, expressed concerns about living long enough to fulfil his nine-picture deal. Jackson, who has appeared in a total of 10 Marvel movies to date, including the most recent “The Marvels” in 2023, also featured in three television series and three video games within the Marvel universe.
Despite his fondness for the role, Jackson admitted to having reservations about the ambitious project. He revealed to GQ that he initially wondered, “How long I gotta stay alive to make nine movies?” However, he was pleasantly surprised by Marvel’s efficiency in movie production, which allowed him to complete his contract sooner than anticipated. Reflecting on the process, Jackson remarked, “It’s kinda crazy, like, Oh sh–, I’m using up my contracts! But it worked out.”
While Jackson is not currently scheduled for any future Marvel films, he expressed regret at not being able to visit Wakanda as part of the Marvel universe. He shared his disappointment with GQ, noting that he, along with other Black actors in the franchise, had hoped to explore the fictional African nation. Despite the significant representation of Black talent in the Black Panther movies, Jackson lamented, “I still didn’t get there.”
In one of his final Marvel projects, “Secret Invasion,” Jackson faced a near-mishap on set with co-star Emilia Clarke. Clarke recalled an incident during filming where she nearly ran over Jackson while operating a Russian car for a driving scene. Despite the close call, Clarke praised Jackson for his gentlemanly response to the situation.
As Jackson’s remarkable tenure in the Marvel universe continues to captivate audiences, his dedication to the iconic character of Nick Fury remains a testament to his versatility and enduring talent in the world of cinema.
