A ‘skeletal’ dog has been rescued from deplorable conditions inside a flat after concerned neighbours raised the alarm. The malnourished pup, now named ‘Angel’ by her rescuers, was spotted through a window in a Kidsgrove home that was described as being ‘covered in faeces’. Videos captured the shocking state of the flat, strewn with rubbish and excrement, where Angel was found with visible ribs and spine. There were fears that Angel would be put down within 14 days if not claimed, but the RSPCA assured that healthy dogs are not euthanised. The rescue was initiated by Nikki Swift, who discovered the dog after being alerted by a friend living in the building.
Describing the distressing scene, Nikki stated that the dog was emaciated, and she and her friend could see Angel eating off faeces inside the flat. After gaining access with the landlord’s help, they provided food and water to the neglected canine. Nikki, upon rescuing the pup, renamed her Angel as a symbol of a new beginning. The RSPCA was contacted for assistance, and they confirmed that neglect charges were being pursued and that the dog would receive proper care. Nikki revealed that assumptions were made that the dog had been taken by its owner as there had been no noise from the flat for some time.
