Clydesdale MSP Mairi McAllan has commended the female sporting talents within her constituency, praising them for inspiring and supporting others to engage in physical activities. This acknowledgement was made in conjunction with the launch of the eighth annual Scottish women and girls in sport week, which aims to address gender disparities in sports and promote discussions on women’s health. This year’s focus is on celebrating leadership, with Ms McAllan emphasising the importance of women and girls in Clydesdale taking the lead in encouraging more participation in sports.
In her statement, McAllan highlighted the key role that every woman and girl in Clydesdale can play as a leader, urging them to motivate others to join in physical activities and share their accomplishments on social media using the hashtag #SheCanSheWill. She stressed the positive impact of physical activity and the significance of having role models who can inspire girls to participate and enjoy the diverse benefits of sports.
The MSP also drew attention to the allocation of £1.45 million in funding from Holyrood to support Sport Scotland’s active campus network, which has enabled numerous college women to engage in sports. Additionally, she revealed the Scottish Government’s plan to double the investment in sports and active living to £100 million by the end of the current parliamentary term.
The efforts to promote female participation in sports and physical activities are crucial in achieving gender equality and fostering a culture of health and wellness among women and girls. McAllan’s recognition of these contributions emphasises the importance of providing opportunities and support for female athletes and leaders in Clydesdale.
