In Florida, Sheriff’s Captain Michelle Quintero tragically perished in floodwaters after a dam broke while she was on her way to work at the Madison County jail.
In North Carolina, Deputy Jim Lau’s truck was swept away by a swollen river during his lunch break, leading to a frantic search that tragically ended with the discovery of his body. The Macon County Sheriff’s Office remembers Lau as a dedicated and respected member of their team, always willing to lend a helping hand wherever needed. In southern Georgia, assistant fire chief Vernon “Leon” Davis, a 30-year firefighting veteran, was killed when a tree fell on his vehicle in Blackshear.
The storm also claimed the lives of members of the same family in Georgia, with great-grandfather Stephen Donehoo and his 10-year-old great-grandson, Izaac Donehoo, perishing when a tree crashed into their home in Augusta. Their family mourns the loss of two beloved individuals, with relatives sharing their grief and memories on social media platforms.
