During the unexpected delay, residents who had anticipated exploring the globe instead found themselves becoming well acquainted with Belfast. Many passengers developed friendships, with one couple even getting engaged while awaiting the commencement of the cruise. Canadian Gian Perroni and American Angie Harsanyi found love as they spent time together in Belfast, culminating in a romantic proposal under a supermoon.
On Monday night, passengers erupted in cheers, applause, and hugs for the ship’s chief as it was announced they were finally ready to depart. Despite enjoying their time in Belfast, passengers expressed eagerness to continue their global journey. Andy Garrison, 75, who unexpectedly spent six weeks in Belfast, shared his enthusiasm for the upcoming adventure, even bringing along a self-assembled model of the Titanic aboard the ship.
The Villa Vie Odyssey departed from the Belfast dock around 11.30 pm on Monday, slowly embarking on its voyage in Belfast Lough. Andy Garrison, who now anticipates being aboard for at least three-and-a-half years, reflected on his extended stay in Belfast and described the passengers as a resilient and welcoming group. Fellow passenger Cyndi Grzybowski from Georgia spoke about the bond that formed among the residents during their time together in Belfast, transforming from strangers into a close-knit family.
The luxury cruise ship offers various rental options from 35 to 120 days, with the opportunity to purchase villas ranging from £90,000 to £260,000. Owning a villa guarantees a room for a minimum of 15 years, with ownership remaining valid for the ship’s entire operational lifespan. Mike Petterson, the chief executive of Villa Vie Residences, expressed some stress over last-minute preparations but highlighted the warmth and sense of community that had developed among passengers during their unexpected stay in Belfast.
