The footage captured by a Nest cam showed the car suddenly catching fire, with flames rapidly spreading and filling the garage with smoke. The county issued a warning about the potential fire risk posed by electric vehicles that have been flooded, particularly in saltwater. They urged residents to take precautionary measures and inform authorities if they were unable to move their vehicles to safety.
The family residing in the Siesta Key home was asleep when the fire broke out, and it was their grandchildren who first noticed the blaze. Escaping from the house, they saw the fire quickly consuming the structure within minutes. The devastation left the homeowners in shock, with one of them expressing the loss of everything they had invested in the house over the years.
