Visible Fictions bringing rarely seen art form to New Galloway

Visible Fictions is set to showcase a rarely seen art form in New Galloway next week at the CatStrand. The performance of Up, scheduled for 7.30pm on Thursday, October 3, forms part of the Dumfries and Galloway Arts Festival. Up is a heartfelt narrative exploring themes of love, fate, and luck through the unique lens of object theatre, offering a profoundly intimate storytelling experience.

The production delves into the extraordinary circumstances of two strangers facing mortality together as a commercial plane plummets, engines whirring, and hand baggage flying. As they clasp hands in fear and contemplation, their intertwined lives unfold in a flurry of moments, questioning the notions of chance, choice, and the profound human connections that define us.

Exploring the depths of luck and coincidence, Up presents a fantasy-laden journey where time bends, and the essence of what truly matters comes sharply into focus. Originally conceived in 2020 and shared at the Manipulate Festival, the overwhelmingly positive reception propelled Visible Fictions to expand the piece into a full-scale production, eager to bring its powerful narrative to a wider audience.

Douglas Irvine, the artistic director of Visible Fictions, expressed his enthusiasm for introducing this unique art form to Scottish stages, highlighting the captivating blend of intimacy and grandeur that Up promises to deliver. The production promises to offer a thought-provoking and emotionally resonant experience, inviting audiences to ponder the intricacies of human connection and the serendipitous nature of our shared journeys.

This innovative storytelling approach is set to captivate and challenge viewers, inviting them to delve into the depths of chance and choice and the profound impact of human relationships. Up promises to be a performance that pushes artistic boundaries while inviting audiences to reflect on the intricate tapestry of love, fate, and the unspoken connections that bind us all together.
