The White House has assured that President Biden will collaborate with Israel following the recent Iran rocket attack to ensure “severe consequences.” In response to nearly 200 missiles fired at Tel Aviv, some of which were intercepted by Israeli and US forces, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan stated that the US will work closely with Israeli officials to determine the appropriate course of action.
Sullivan emphasised the seriousness of Iran’s strikes, noting that it signifies a significant escalation in the conflict that began in October the previous year and poses a threat to the Middle East region as a whole. He revealed that initial discussions have already taken place between the White House and the Israeli Prime Minister’s office, with ongoing consultations expected to determine the response to Iran’s actions.
During a press briefing at the White House, Sullivan highlighted the importance of protecting US service members in the region and commended the IDF’s professionalism and joint planning with US forces, which contributed to preventing casualties from the rocket attack. He acknowledged the critical role played by US destroyers deployed in the region in assisting with the missile defense effort.
“This is a breaking story, and there will be more updates to follow,” Sullivan concluded, indicating that the situation is still unfolding. The White House remains vigilant in monitoring further threats and attacks from Iran and its proxies, whilst actively collaborating with Israel to address the recent events.
