Businesses in Stirling are being encouraged to join the Business Improvement District (BID) through a voluntary levy scheme. Those not automatically enrolled as members, due to having a rateable value under £10,000 or being located outside the city centre BID zone, can choose to opt in to benefit from the various services offered. By paying a fee of £125 per year (if based in Stirling city centre) or 1.25% of their rateable value (if not), traders can access initiatives such as free online training programmes, membership of Retailers Against Crime, and the opportunity to apply for grant schemes.
Laura McClintock, who runs the Nevermore Tattoo & Piercing Studio with her husband John, became a voluntary member of Go Forth Stirling BID earlier this year. She successfully applied for a £5,000 ‘Supercharged’ Shopfront Improvement grant, transforming the look of her shop on Friars Street. She expressed her support for BID, highlighting the sense of community it fosters among businesses and the support it provides. Participating in events like the annual Business Awards Night and footfall-boosting activities enhances the business’s visibility and engagement with the local community.
Stirling Distillery, another voluntary levy payer, has also benefited from BID’s marketing campaigns and events, which have increased footfall and boosted the visibility of their business. By being featured in BID promotions and campaigns, they have gained valuable exposure. Being part of the BID allows businesses to collaborate, engage in joint promotions, and participate in community initiatives, strengthening ties with residents and other businesses.
The Project Director of Go Forth Stirling BID, Danielle McRorie-Smith, welcomed voluntary levy members and encouraged others interested in joining to reach out for more information. With 37 active BIDs in Scotland, each tailored to meet the specific needs of their business communities, Go Forth Stirling aims to enhance the city’s appeal to visitors and locals by devising initiatives to make it a more welcoming destination. Businesses looking to engage with the BID are encouraged to visit the website for more information.
