Manchester City’s Matheus Nunes Arrested in Spain for Alleged Nightclub Phone Robbery
Manchester City midfielder and Portugal international, Matheus Nunes, was briefly arrested in Spain last month for allegedly stealing a mobile phone, as per a police source confirming a report in El Mundo newspaper.
The incident reportedly took place in a Madrid nightclub, where Nunes allegedly took a high-end phone from a 58-year-old man, suspecting that the man had taken a picture of him without consent in the bathroom, according to El Mundo.
A police spokesperson in Madrid confirmed that a Portuguese citizen was arrested on 8th September at 5.30 am in a downtown nightclub for the alleged robbery of a high-end phone. After being questioned at a police station, the individual, identified as Nunes, was released pending trial.
The case is being treated as a robbery rather than theft due to the phone’s value exceeding €300 (£250), a police source revealed. Nunes, 26, originally from Brazil, joined Manchester City from Wolverhampton Wanderers last season and was part of the Portugal squad at Euro 2024 in Germany but was not included in the recent international duty.
As of now, no comments have been provided by Nunes or his spokesperson in response to the arrest. The situation remains under investigation as Nunes awaits his trial for the alleged incident.
