The Belarusian champions took the lead in the 20th minute through Stephen Alfred, putting Hearts on the back foot. However, Hearts fought back and equalised in the 37th minute, courtesy of an own goal by Sergei Politevich. The game looked to be heading towards a draw until substitute Yan Dhanda emerged as the hero, scoring a header in the 94th minute and clinching a 2-1 victory for Hearts.
Due to UEFA’s ban on Belarusian clubs playing European matches on home soil due to their country’s involvement in the conflict in Ukraine, the game took place in a closed-doors setting at the Mehdi Huseynzade Stadium in Sumqayit, Azerbaijan.
