Dad of triplets dies in tragic accident during ‘lads and dads’ golf trip
A father of triplets tragically passed away during a ‘lads and dads’ golf trip with his family after a freak accident, as reported by the Daily Record. Edward Sidgwick, aged 53, was enjoying a golf weekend with his son, brother, nephews, and friends when the horrific incident occurred. The inquest revealed that Edward had been searching for his room at the four-star Dunston Hall Hotel near Norwich, Norfolk, and unfortunately fell down the stairs, leading to his untimely death.
According to the Norfolk Coroner’s Court, the incident took place on June 15, following a day of golf where Edward had been drinking with his son, brother, nephews, and friends. The group had gathered for a ‘debrief beer’ at the hotel’s golf club bar before heading to their rooms to prepare for dinner at 6 pm. It was suggested that Edward, in a moment of confusion, mistakenly took the lift to an upper floor instead of heading to his ground-floor room, which ultimately led to the fatal fall.
Edward’s son, Robert, shared poignant moments from the trip, where his father expressed his happiness and pride in his family’s achievements and relationships. This annual golf tradition, organised by Edward for over two decades, was the first time the younger generation joined in for a special ‘lads and dads’ golf tour.
Forensic toxicologist Dr Paul Smith highlighted that Edward had a significantly high alcohol level in his blood, which likely contributed to the fall. Born in Swindon, Wiltshire, Edward met his wife Joanna in 1986, and they went on to have triplet sons – Robert, Harry, and Jack – in 2000. Describing Edward as a devoted family man, Joanna expressed his pride in their sons’ accomplishments and his unwavering support for his extended family following his father’s passing.
The assistant coroner, Christopher Leach, concluded that Edward’s death was alcohol-related, noting his deep dedication to his family. Mr. Leach emphasised that the fatal head injury resulted from the fall, exacerbated by the high alcohol levels. The inquest painted a vivid picture of a beloved husband, father, and family man, whose sudden passing has left a profound void in the hearts of his loved ones.
