Additionally, it addresses an issue where the camera may freeze during video recording. Beyond these visible changes, the update also focuses on crucial security updates.
Of particular concern is a security flaw that could allow an app to access audio just before the microphone is activated. Another alarming vulnerability that the update addresses is a bug that could expose saved passwords when using VoiceOver, an accessibility feature that reads screen information for visually impaired users. While the practical risk of exploitation from these vulnerabilities may be minimal, the potential threat of passwords being exposed remains disconcerting for users.

In addition to resolving these security concerns, the iOS 18.0.1 update now extends support to Apple’s highest-end iPads that were previously left without the update due to technical issues. Initially released on 16th September, the iOS 18 update was swiftly removed from tablets using Apple’s latest M4 chip following reports of devices freezing and becoming unusable. After addressing these issues, Apple has reinstated the update, enabling users of these iPads to download and install iOS 18.0.1.
