JetBlue Airways has decided to revamp its in-flight catering services by introducing a chilled-only menu on transatlantic flights, thereby discontinuing the availability of hot meals in economy class. The move aims to enhance the passenger experience while maintaining cost-effectiveness for the airline.
Passengers travelling in economy class on JetBlue’s transatlantic flights can now choose from a menu featuring options like a breakfast crepe, courgette frittata, oats, fruit, yoghurt, chicken grain bowl, tofu and noodles, pasta salad, mushrooms, lentils, and assorted fruits and vegetables. However, customers in JetBlue’s upper classes, including those in the ‘Transatlantic Mint’ loyalty program and business class, will still have the privilege of enjoying hot meals.
JetBlue’s ‘Mint’ passengers can look forward to a variety of meal choices tailored to their flight direction, such as mushroom rigatoni, chicken milanese, and pizza. The airline highlighted that the menu changes were implemented following a successful trial during the summer on their Dublin and Edinburgh seasonal flights, extending the new core menu to their six transatlantic daily flights for the upcoming winter season.
In partnership with DIG, JetBlue’s new menu is designed to meet high-quality meal standards set by the airline. The alterations in catering complement JetBlue’s continuous efforts to deliver exceptional customer experiences at competitive fares on transatlantic routes. Recent enhancements in customer service include the introduction of airport lounges at key locations like John F. Kennedy International (JFK) Airport in New York and Boston Logan International Airport to cater to the growing demand for premium services among passengers.
The airline’s meal menu adjustments coincide with similar changes by Air France, who announced modifications to their inflight dining services starting January 2025 on select routes. Air France will no longer provide complimentary inflight meals to economy ticket holders on routes from Paris Charles de Gaulle to Lisbon, Portugal, and Helsinki, Finland. Instead, passengers will have the option to purchase catering onboard.
JetBlue’s decision to shift towards a chilled menu for economy passengers is part of its strategic response to evolving customer preferences and market dynamics. With a focus on maintaining service quality and affordability, JetBlue continues to adapt its offerings to meet the changing needs of its passengers.
