The Moffat branch of Macmillan Cancer Support was left feeling “overwhelmed” by the outpouring of support received during a recent coffee morning event. The fundraising group in Dumfriesshire managed to raise over £8,000 in total, with a significant contribution coming from the successful coffee morning held at the town hall. The event brought in an impressive £4,011 through the sale of refreshments, stalls, and raffles which were well-received by attendees.
Anne Garrett, a representative from the group, expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the event. She highlighted the fantastic sum raised and thanked volunteers, donors, and everyone involved in making the coffee morning a triumph. The group credited their dedicated members, supportive volunteers, and the town hall staff for their invaluable assistance in organising the event.
The generosity didn’t end there as additional donations poured in for the Macmillan Cancer Support branch. Moffat Rugby Club presented a cheque of £200 for their help at the rugby 10s event, while the Solway Vehicle Enthusiasts offered a donation of £150. Furthermore, a significant contribution of £4,000 was made by the organisers of the popular Moffat Classic Car Rally – the Moffat and District Motor Club and Galloway Motorcycle Club.
These donations were described as the “icing on the cake” by Anne, who expressed gratitude for the continued support from these organisations. Apart from supporting the cancer group, the motor clubs also extended their generosity to other local groups by presenting them with cheques from funds raised at the car rally. Recipients included Prostate Buddies, Moffat Civic Pride, Moffat Lunch Club, Moffat Senior Citizen Christmas Party, and Upper Annandale Youth FC.
The Moffat and District Motor Club conveyed their thanks to all who participated in and supported the car rally, emphasising the community spirit that enabled such charitable contributions. The event served as a heartwarming example of local residents coming together to support important causes and make a positive impact in their community.
