Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has stated that the decision regarding the future of manager Erik Ten Hag is not within his purview. Three months after Ineos extended Ten Hag’s contract following a comprehensive post-season review, questions about his position have arisen.
Despite the euphoria of winning the FA Cup against Manchester City in May, recent performances have been less than stellar. A 3-0 defeat at home to Tottenham was followed by blowing a two-goal lead against Porto in the Europa League.
Ratcliffe emphasised the importance of the United hierarchy making a well-informed and sensible decision on the matter. While expressing his admiration for Ten Hag as a coach, Ratcliffe clarified that the final decision rests with the management team at Manchester United.
Acknowledging that the current management team has only been in place since June or July, Ratcliffe reiterated the objective of taking Manchester United back to their former glory. Ten Hag, on the other hand, remains confident in the support he has from the club’s hierarchy and expects improvements to come.

The recent defeat at the hands of Porto marked the 24th occasion in all competitions under Ten Hag where Manchester United conceded three or more goals in a match, the highest in the Premier League during that period. Looking ahead to the upcoming match at Villa Park, Ten Hag mentioned that midfielder Kobbie Mainoo will be assessed for fitness. Mainoo, who missed the Porto match due to an injury sustained against Spurs, trained before the game but was not included in the squad.
