The Tesla Model Y gets a range boost, reaching up to 373 miles per charge

The Tesla Model Y has received a significant range boost, now offering up to 373 miles per charge. A new version of the popular electric car, the Tesla Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive, has been introduced with this impressive range. This surpasses the previous Long Range All-Wheel Drive model, which had a range of 331 miles. The new model comes at a more affordable price point of £46,990, undercutting the cost of the all-wheel drive version by £6,000.

Despite an upcoming new version of the Tesla Model Y expected next year, the current model continues to see improvements. The Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive version is now available for purchase, providing customers with a longer driving range and a more budget-friendly option compared to the all-wheel drive variant. The Tesla Model Y range also includes the Long Range All-Wheel Drive and the Performance All-Wheel Drive models, catering to different preferences and needs.

Tesla boasts an impressive average efficiency figure of 4m/kWh for the Model Y on 20-inch wheels, which increases to 4.17 on 19-inch wheels. The car’s 373-mile range is based on the smaller wheels, but even with larger wheels, the range remains high at 351 miles. These figures indicate the potential for even longer ranges if Tesla were to offer a Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive Model 3 in the future, possibly surpassing the 400-mile mark.

The new Tesla Model Y is equipped to charge at speeds of up to 250kW at Tesla’s Supercharger locations, providing convenience for drivers on the go. Performance-wise, the Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive accelerates from 0-60mph in 5.5 seconds and can reach a top speed of 135mph. Built in Tesla’s gigafactory in Berlin, this latest Model Y showcases improved build quality, reflecting the advancements seen in cars manufactured at the German plant.

Buyers of the new Model Y have the option to select from five colours and two wheel choices. The car features a sleek design with a 15.4-inch touchscreen and a premium 13-speaker audio system, highlighting Tesla’s commitment to a seamless and enjoyable driving experience. The built-in navigation system assists drivers in planning their journeys effectively, while the Tesla app offers convenient features such as pre-programmed navigation and self-parking capabilities through the Summon feature.

With its enhanced range, performance, and features, the Tesla Model Y continues to make waves in the electric vehicle market. The Model 3, another popular Tesla offering, has also been praised for its performance and design, solidifying Tesla’s position as a leading innovator in the industry.
