Popular Cuban reggaeton artist El Taiger is currently in a “very critical condition” after sustaining a gunshot wound to the head. The 37-year-old singer, whose real name is Jose Manuel Carbajal, was discovered on Thursday morning in a black Mercedes SUV with the injury, as reported by Miami Police Department officials in a press conference on Friday.
After receiving initial medical assistance, El Taiger was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center where he underwent surgery and remains in a precarious state, confirmed Miami Chief of Police Manuel Morales. Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to CBS News Miami, Carbajal has suffered severe brain damage and has been placed on life support. While there is uncertainty about whether the gunshot wound was self-inflicted, it is believed that the incident did not occur at the location where he was found. Miami police spokesperson Mike Vega indicated that it is suspected someone brought him there and then departed on foot.
El Taiger’s manager, Macel Reinosa, expressed doubts about the possibility of suicide given the nature of the gunshot wound to the front of his head. Encouraging messages and support have poured in from fellow musicians, with many gathering outside the hospital to show solidarity with the artist.
