A TikToker, who found a rug buried in her backyard, has disclosed the conclusion of a police investigation after social media users speculated that a dead body might be concealed on the property. Katie Santry’s discovery of a rolled-up carpet buried deep underground in her garden attracted millions of followers on TikTok. In a viral post, she questioned, “Who the f***, and why the f*** is there a rolled-up carpet underground?”
After much anticipation, Santry confirmed in a TikTok post on Friday (4 October) that no body was found during the police search. She expressed, “This has been the most absurd, insane experience of my life,” and reassured viewers, “No, they didn’t find a body, they found a mother effing rug with some rubber.”
Initially, social media users advised Santry to contact the police upon sharing her discovery. However, following the police visit, officers stated they were unable to allocate resources. Suggestions then emerged for her to excavate the rug herself. Prior to hosting a TikTok livestream of digging up the rug with friends, she was contacted by the homicide department.
On Thursday (3 October), she revealed that law enforcement had cordoned off her house, awaiting the arrival of a forensics team to examine the carpet. Detectives and cadaver dogs were dispatched to inspect the area, with CSI and the missing persons department also involved.
When the dogs reacted strongly to the area with the rug, Santry explained that it could indicate human remnants or something as minor as blood from a nosebleed. In her latest TikTok video confirming no body was discovered, she pondered, “The question remains of why the dogs hit [that space].” The Independent has reached out to the Columbus Police Department for a comment.
Authorities assured Santry that it was unnecessary to involve a lawyer as there were no suspicions of her involvement. With over 2 million followers on TikTok, Santry’s journey in unraveling the mystery has captivated a significant audience.
