A distressing dog attack in London has left a woman and two young children with serious injuries and in need of urgent hospital care. The harrowing incident occurred at around 9 am on Mickleham Road in St Paul’s Cray, just north of Orpington, when four dogs reportedly launched an unprovoked assault on a four-year-old child, a six-year-old child, and a 30-year-old woman.
In response to the attack, police, including armed units, swiftly arrived at the scene on the suburban road, subdued the dogs, and took them to police kennels. A woman has been apprehended under suspicion of having dogs dangerously out of control and is currently in custody, as confirmed by the Metropolitan Police. Fortunately, the victims were promptly taken to the hospital, where their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The London Ambulance Service responded to the incident, stating, “We treated one adult and two children at the scene and took them all to a major trauma centre by road.” Mickleham Road is currently cordoned off by the police, who are investigating the attack, leading to an increased police presence in the area for the following days.
Superintendent Mitch Carr from the South Area BCU acknowledged the public’s concerns, especially regarding the young age of the children involved. He reassured the community by stating, “Fortunately, it is believed that none of the injuries are life-threatening.” An eyewitness described the traumatic scene where he intervened to help the young victims by separating them from the attacking dogs.
The police force issued a statement confirming the arrest of a woman on suspicion of having dogs dangerously out of control following the morning’s incident. The injuries sustained by the two children aged 4 and 6, and the 30-year-old woman, have been assessed as non-life-threatening.
Due to the road closure on Mickleham Road, traffic is affected, with an alternate route in operation for bus routes B14, R1, R11. The authorities continue their inquiries into the disturbing attack, with a focus on providing support and reassurance to the affected community.
