Scottish comedian Janey Godley has candidly shared her thoughts on facing the end of her life as she receives end-of-life care. In an interview with The Times, Godley, who revealed in September that her cancer had spread and she is now in a hospice receiving palliative care, disclosed the “worst thing” she anticipates about approaching the end of her life.
The 63-year-old comedian expressed her apprehension about not being able to see her 38-year-old daughter, Ashley Storrie, who is also a comedian and actor. Godley referred to Ashley as “the best thing to come out of my vagina” and highlighted her pride in her daughter’s accomplishments. She emotionally shared, “The worst thing about me dying is not being able to see her. I can’t imagine being a spirit and not having her in my orbit.”
Additionally, Godley revealed that delivering the news of her cancer diagnosis to Ashley was one of the most challenging moments for her. Despite undergoing treatment for ovarian cancer since 2021, Godley acknowledged that she had run out of treatment options, leading to the decision to transition to palliative care. She described the experience as devastating yet acknowledged the inevitable reality of life coming to an end.
Ashley Storrie, while expressing sadness at seeing her mother in a different state, commended Godley for her fearless approach and autonomy in handling her situation. Following the revelation of her deteriorating health, Godley received an outpouring of love and support from friends and celebrities, including Nigella Lawson, Dom Joly, Nicola Sturgeon, Mark Hamill, James O’Brien, and Humza Yousaf.
This distressing news comes after Godley had been given the all-clear from cancer in 2022, only to have the disease return, prompting her to cancel her UK tour. Despite the challenges she faces, Janey Godley continues to inspire many with her resilience and unwavering spirit.
