A new AI-powered scam detection tool has been launched in the UK, enabling users to easily check any suspicious text, email, or website for safety. Ask Silver, the new tool, can be accessed within WhatsApp and uses artificial intelligence to quickly analyse whether a communication is a scam or not.
Users can upload a screenshot of the suspicious content to Ask Silver, which then provides instant feedback on its safety status. Once set up, the tool will inform users if the text, email, or website is safe and offer suggested next steps, including the option to report a scam. This initiative aims to help individuals protect themselves from online scams.
Partnering with the creators of Ask Silver, not-for-profit scam protection group Get Safe Online has introduced this tool to increase awareness about staying safe online. As new regulations require banks and payment providers to refund consumers who fall victim to scams, up to £85,000, staying vigilant against scams remains crucial.
Tony Neate, the chief executive of Get Safe Online, highlighted the importance of remaining cautious despite bank regulations. Neate praised Ask Silver, stating, “It’s so simple to use and if it saves you from a scam, what’s not to like?” The founder of Ask Silver, Alex Somervell, emphasised the need to empower individuals with tools to enhance their vigilance in the face of sophisticated scammers in the digital age.
