Young striker Jhon Duran has solidified his commitment to Aston Villa by penning a new long-term contract with the club. Despite facing transfer speculation linking him to West Ham and Chelsea, the 20-year-old chose to stay with Villa Park and has now extended his deal until 2030.
Duran has emerged as a vital player under manager Unai Emery, making significant contributions as a substitute with match-winning goals against West Ham, Leicester, and Everton. His standout moment came in the Champions League with a memorable victory over Bayern Munich, where he scored his sixth goal of the season.
Emery highlighted Duran’s potential, emphasising that the young player needed guidance to fulfil his talent. Arriving from MLS side Chicago Fire in January 2023, Duran took time to adjust but made a notable impact last season with eight goals across all competitions.
The Colombian international, capped 12 times, has been selected for World Cup qualifying matches against Bolivia and Chile. Duran’s journey from initially struggling to find the net to becoming a key figure for Aston Villa showcases his growth and development in English football under Emery’s tutelage.
